LAUSD Parents Protest Methods Used Against Child Sexual Assault Victims

Dozens of parents and supporters gathered to protest how the Los Angeles Unified School District handles accusations of abuse.

Nathalie Casasola and her mother joined dozens of other parents and supporters who gathered to protest how the Los Angeles Unified School District handles accusations of abuse.

“He slapped me,” Casasola said. “He just hit me on my forehead.”

The 17-year-old says her teacher at Luskin Academy in South Los Angeles physically abused her last June.

“I just walked in his class because I left my notebook there so I went and got my notebook and I guess he got mad. He started putting his hand in my face and then he just smacked me,” Casasola said.

When Nathalie tried to report her teacher, she says her claims weren’t taken seriously.

“The principal didn’t do anything. He told me that some students deserve to get hit,” Casasola said.

Casasola is not the only one with a story like this.

“Not only does LAUSD fail to protect children, they also re-traumatize these same children once they’re victims,” said Michael Carillo, an attorney for some of the families.

ATVN spoke with the Luskin academy principal over the phone. He said they are in legal procedings with the family and cannot comment. ATVN was not able to verify Nathalie’s claims.
