Steve Sarkisian Terminated As USC Head Coach
USC athletic director Pat Haden announced on Monday that head coach Steve Sarkisian's contract had been terminated. This follows news of Sarkisian's leave of absence on Sunday, after concerns arose over the head coach's health.
Haden released the news online stating, "After careful consideration of what is in the best interest of the university and our student-athletes, I have made the decision to terminate Steve Sarkisian, effective immediately."
Offensive coordinator, Clay Helton, will take over as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season. This termination marks the second time in three years that USC has fired its head coach after losing the fifth game of the season.
Through the difficult situation Haden remained hopeful for Sarkisian's future. "Through all of this we remain concerned for Steve and hope that it will give him the opportunity to focus on his personal well being," he said.
The Trojans, led by Helton, must now look toward an important rivalry road game against the University of Notre Dame this weekend.
