Day In The Shoes Of The Trojan Spirit: A Trojan Marching Band Profile

A sneak peek at what it's like to be in the Trojan Marching Band.

Joanne Jiang is a senior at USC studying to be a doctor. She is committed to helping underprivileged communities that have limited access to basic healthcare.

She may be studying medicine, but Jiang's passion is music. She has been in marching bands since fifth grade, so she could not see herself not being a part of "the greatest marching band in the history of the universe," The Spirit of Troy, here at USC.

It is all about trying something new, something you will not be able to do in a professional setting outside of college, Jiang said. School is always her priority, but she believes being in the band is not about prioritizing. It is about balancing work and fun, and when it comes down to it, band is never the first thing she cuts out.

Jiang believes band is as much as you put into it, and she has enjoyed every single moment of it. She loves the people that she gets to meet outside of the traditional classroom setting and the big musical gigs that she gets to participate in, like performing alongside band alum Will Ferrell.

The band has taught her a lot and helped her grow into the stronger person she is today. That's what the Spirit of Troy truly means to her.
