Facebook's new app will integrate the site into Android phone homescreens.

Facebook unveiled a new app on Thursday that company founder Mark Zuckerberg called the "Facebook Home."

The Facebook app is only available for Android phones.
The Facebook app is only available for Android phones.

The app will transform user's homescreens. Pictures from Facebook's newsfeed will take up the entire screen of Android phones' that have the app. Users can still exit to the Droid menu with traditional apps.

The app streamlines Facebook on Adroid phones and makes using the site on a cell phone simpler.

It includes a feature called Chat Heads that allows users to chat with multiple friends at once on the home screen.

Zuckerberg made the announcement at the company's headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif.

The app will run on about half a dozen Android models at first. HTC Corp. is developing a phone that will have the app automatically loaded onto it.

Eventually the app will be compatable with phones running the Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean operating systems of Android.

Facebook said it has not made the app available for iPhone because Apple does not have the same open-source policy that Google does. An open-source policy allows anyone to modify software.

Facebook stock jumped 74 cents, or 2.8%, after the event.

As a regular user of www.facebook.com I for one am glad to see this, it's been rumored for a while, and whilst they aren't releasing a phone, i think this is just as good and keeps everything social
