Here's to the Journey and the Destination

It was 8 o’clock on Wednesday morning and I was feeling a little tired and run down from a tough week of school. While other people were pitching stories and talking about what angles we want to cover, I realized that my lack of energy and enthusiasm would only bring the team down throughout the day. I quickly made a conscious effort to be more bubbly and extroverted and to forget about whatever else I had going on outside of the media center. Everything else could wait because I had a show to produce.

My teammates and I are improving our understanding of our individual roles as well as the roles of other people in the media center. With more experience, we are able to help each other and facilitate other people in the media center (multimedia journalists and assignment desk editors) in accomplishing their tasks throughout the day. Simply by accumulating sheer knowledge, I am able to perform better in the media center and control room.

For example, in my first few weeks on the job, I had trouble adjusting audio levels, determining run times of sound-on-tape interviews, and ordering CNN footage that we use in our newscasts. Now, I am able to do all of the aforementioned tasks in a fast and easy manner. It is almost second nature to me. That being said, I must make sure that I am paying close attention to the details as a minor miscue could lead to an unprofessional look in the final product.

As my teammates and I continue to improve our producing skills, I hope that we will be able to grow as a unit and learn to enjoy the process as much as the final product.
