Producers

Love your teammates and the show will be better for it!

This class has taught me a lot about almost every aspect of broadcast news.  As for advice, I have a few things.  Firstly, get to know your other producers.  Figure out how they work and think.  Figure out the dynamic between the three of you as early as possible.  I was really fortunate to work with Madeline and Meagan this semester and our relationship definitely made producing easier.  We knew what each other's strengths were and got into a really productive groove by the last few shows.  Another piece of advice would be to know your staff.  Know who you can trust with more difficult assignments and who's work you need to check on more.  It's not good when you are in the studio waiting on stories that you assigned to people who are less experienced.  It only adds stress to your job.  My final word of advice would be to BREATHE throughout the day.  It is so important to take a step back every couple of hours to regain your composure and to have a fresh pair of eyes on your broadcast.  If a producer is freaking out, the rest of the staff senses that and it is reflected in the broadcast.  Stories are rushed or written poorly, graphics don't make sense.  Everyone in the newsroom is looking at you to lead the show, so if you keep your cool then things will run much more smoothly.  This class has taught me a lot about my style of leadership and I can't wait for next semester's class to have the same experience.  Best of luck!
