The Perfect Ending
Yesterday’s show was, without a doubt, a fitting end to my college and ATVN producing career. True to form on Thursdays, we had breaking news in the middle of the day and a late breaking development that came five minutes before we went to air, but we were able to lead with it and put a solid show on the air.
Yesterday also involved some re-arranging and re-routing. Since we lacked WSEs with cars and it was going to take too long for a WSE to take the bus to MacArthur Park, I had to ask Derek to leave Dorsey High and make the trek to the Westlake District. By mistake I led him to the other end of Beverly Boulevard and he got pretty turned around getting to the real site of the robbery.
Derek actually ended up working on two stories…the NFL concussion follow-up and the Westlake manhunt story. Our anchors have been consistently great throughout the semester and they’ve really made our show happen many, many times.
Everyone seemed a little high-strung during the day and when we were doing the post-mortem at the end of the show, it all made sense. I guess I was so busy all day it didn’t hit me that it was our last show. And not just the last show of the semester…the last show of my college career. And the same held true for a lot of people in the room. I didn’t realize how sad it was until the very end. ATVN has been a great experience and I couldn’t imagine going through college without it. Now on to the real world…
