Getting in the Rhythm of Things

It has only been two weeks, but I feel like Team Thursday is invincible! Kristen, Trace, and I have a lot of ATVN experience under our belts and I believe it shines as we embrace our new roles as producers.

For these past couple of weeks, Kristen has been our lead producer. It has been great to have someone with past producing skills step to the plate and feed Trace and I tips. (I mean, who else finishes a brand-new rundown before noon?!) She has definitely shown me that when you come prepared, the show can run smooth. Which is great, considering I’ll be taking lead this upcoming week.

Trace has been keeping his creative juices flowing as a graphic teammate. After every live broadcast, ATVN has a tradition of huddling up and discussing how the show went. Trace brought up a good point about graphics when he said they “set the tone” for the stories. They really can be a hindrance to a story, just as much as an enhancer.

Lastly, the role of Video Teammate has been filled by myself these past couple of weeks. I have been an MJ for ATVN for a number of semesters -- as well as a reporter -- so I felt comfortable with the technical aspects of the job, just not the web side of it. Thankfully we do get help from our Web Director, but staying on top of all the MJ’s and web stories was overwhelming for me. This week I implemented a check sheet requiring MJ’s to have me sign-off each task before moving on to the next. This helped me keep track of who is doing what and what they may have forgotten to do. It really prevented me from getting confused about who did what, as I did the first week.

Overall, I’m super impressed with my team. Everyone is very professional and really has a passion for airing the best broadcast possible -- even our anchors, reporters, and MJ’s are enthusiastic about the stories they’re going out to get. For the future, I want to continue this good momentum and also spend more time training the MJ’s.

ATVN is not just about making the grade or simply getting the stories done, it is about training for our futures. I just want to make sure that everyone feels comfortable and ready for when their time comes to enter the real world. Myself included, who only has eight more months left on this campus.
