Maintaining ATVN's High Quality
This Tuesday's broadcast was filled with many mistakes that could have been easily fixed with more quality control. By quality control, I mean maintaining a keener eye in order to pay closer attention to details, frequently checking and updating your work, and focusing on keeping a standard of high quality with every element of the newscast. While these small tasks may seem easy and almost unimportant, executing them are what can make ATVN's newscast look either professional or unpolished.
Of course, multi-tasking and rushing to make deadlines does not make quality control an easy task. Nevertheless, if everyone comes together as a team and goes the extra mile, quality control can be feasible. For example, rather than only copy editing scripts of your own, looking over others' scripts and making small fixes can truly help the entire show. Furthermore, by notifying fellow teammates about updates or changes being made to the show, you can save time and avoid mistakes.
Personally, I try to improve quality control by paying close attention to details, making a checklist of everything I have to change or fix, and communicating with my teammates to keep everyone updated. When I created the rundown, I tried my best to make sure to do everything line by line and not make any mistakes. This way, I would save time by not having to go back and fix everything I did wrong. Also, I wrote down all the changes I had to make to the rundown during the afternoon. As such, I was able to avoid mistakes that occurred because I forgot to do something. Some of the changes on my checklist included issues with formatting, graphics and slugs. Finally, I always try to check in with my teammates to notify them of any issues or to simply see how they are doing.
Quality control is something I am still struggling with and working to improve. As a next step, I hope to be able to finish my duties early enough to dedicate more time to copy editing!
