Taking it Live with the Live Shots

Up till now, there have been no live shots included in any of Tuesday's newscasts. After learning about the production aspect of live shots, I realized how complicated they are. To be honest, I am a bit overwhelmed by the different elements required in a live shot, but I am ready to take on the challenge!

Live shots can add flavor to a newscast. Viewers are able to feel as if they are present at the location of the live shot and can be delivered the latest updates. As such, stories such as election results, court decisions and breaking news are among the possible options for good live shots. This is because viewers will be given the most up-to-date news about the stories and will be able to witness the situation for themselves through the television screen. For instance, live shots immediately after election results will give reporters a chance to not only state the results, but also give a glimpse of what the reaction is like. With breaking news such as shootings, viewers can see how serious the situation is and how the incident is unravelling with the help of a live shot.

I think the best live shots are those with the greatest visuals. Live shots should be done when the background consists of visuals that will bring the story into perspective or add to the quality of the package. For example, live shots in front of protests would have great visuals! Of course, nobody can predict what live shot will be included in next week's show because news is unpredictable! Nevertheless, I really hope that we can incorporate this element into next week's newscast.
