Sark Sacked

TAGS:

Our biggest story this week was the downward spiral and eventual "sacking" of USC head coach Steve Sarkisian.

At the beginning of the day, the latest news was that Coach Sark was placed on indefinite leave by USC athletic director Pat Haden after he failed to show up to a football practice. This happened on Sunday night. On Monday morning we decided to focus not only on this news, but many of the speculations and tweets from former players at Washington. We also decided to focus on alcoholism and how it affects people as a disease. I really liked this aspect of the story and believe it allowed us to use this opportunity to speak about greater societal issues.

Just after 1 pm, we abruptly found out that Coach Sark had been fired. Our reporter, Cole Sullivan, had been working on this story and we quickly sat down and decided what we needed in order to stay current. Cole went back out to campus and interviewed students about their reaction to this news. We gathered new tweets reacting to Coach Sark's "sacking."

Our team did amazing work with this coverage and I loved how we did not just cover the basic hard facts. At the end of the day, we had a dynamic and interesting show. Teamwork and communication were great throughout the entire day. I can tell that we are past the point of "getting the hang of things" and focused on great content for our viewers. Big stories like these make the day exciting and keep the team on its toes.
