To Produce, Or Not To Produce...
Before this semester I was a little unsure about what career path I wanted to pursue. Although I am still trying to nail down what exactly I would like in a job, taking a producing class definitely helped push me in the right direction.
The producing class I am taking this semester, Journalism 403: Television News Production, made me love news more than I ever have. News is now exciting as ever because it has become something that I can make my own. I’m extremely motivated to wake up every morning to catch up on what is going on in the world around me, and to develop angles that would best suit ATVN’s audience. The class also made news addicting because being informed feels so empowering. I am now glued to the news apps on my phone, and I even installed a news ticker on the desktop of my laptop! This growing love for news makes me look forward to each week’s producing shift, and makes me realize I would love to produce in a career!
In addition to helping me decide what career path to take, Journalism 403 has also taught me skills that I can apply to the newsroom and to daily life situations. The main thing producing taught me is patience. Working together and communication are important, but those will not happen unless you take the time to be patient and listen to those around you. Listening skills are just as important as leadership skills! Another skill producing taught me is better time management. From building a rundown, to assigning multimedia journalists, producing really makes you prioritize. My time management has drastically improved since producing for ATVN!
Overall, I have no regrets about taking Journalism 403. If I decide to pursue a producing career or not, the class was an amazing experience that I will always remember!
