A 'Whole New World' for Team Wednesday
This week, I was impressed. Everyone in the newsroom is becoming really comfortable in their positions and beginning to take ownership of everything they do. So many of the student workers have shown immense progress over the past semester, and it is truly humbling to witness.
Our blog prompt for this week was to write about ATVN's social media presence, how that's linked to what we do in the newsroom and, in fact, this was one of the areas in which I saw the most progress this week. In weeks past, I'd see a few posts on the ATVN website, Twitter, or Facebook page every day, but this week was different. As lead producer, I was Tweeting out a lot of photos that the reporters and MJs took in the field, and it seemed that any time I was posting a new photo or Tweeting out about something, there were three or four brand new Tweets from others that I hadn't seen yet.
This seriously impressed me. Sometimes, it seems like when we remind people (over and over again, sometimes) to Tweet stuff into us about what they're covering in the field, and they still forget. However, this week proved to me that everyone's listening- it just took a little time and practice.
Furthermore, I think we, as producers, have become more able to choose stories that will translate well to the ATVN website. That means, we're doing more local stories that won't require CNN video. Moreover, we're picking stories that will translate well to video, and be a little easier for the reporters or MJs to shoot, which usually translates into better quality work.
Again, overall, I was blown away this week by how well everyone worked together. That's not to say we don't have more work to do in the coming weeks in terms of perfecting the process, especially in terms of ATVN.org and ATVN social media, but I am extremely proud to see the amount of progress everyone on Team Wednesday is making.
