Tuesday Gives a Strong Team Effort

I've been very fortunate to be working on Tuesday this semester. Luck might have something to do with the great team I get to work with each week, but a lot of why Tuesday gets a show on the air is because of the relationships we've built with each other.

Our team has a very positive attitude, which I think greatly contributes to our success. I have to attribute this to Evan because he is always organizing group high fives and firing up the team. Whether he's throwing the "update ball" at you when he wants to hear your progress or entertaining the media center with a song, I know that Evan is making sure that our team enjoys working at ATVN.  Encouraging this playful, fun atmosphere helps keep everyone interested in our newscast and that makes the newscast better. His style may be unconventional, but I can't deny that it works.

Evan and I rely on each other constantly on Tuesdays. I think this trust we're developing is helping both of us adjust to being the lead producer and the video/ graphics producer. Every week we switch roles but towards the end of the day we have the lead producer help approve videos and fix graphics when the video producer gets too busy. Even though it can be overwhelming at times, our two producer team means that our shows have a relatively similar quality week to week because more of our duties end up overlapping.

To make my team more successful I would like to make sure that I take the necessary time to talk to each MJ and reporter before they go into the field and when they return. Before they leave I would like to remind them about framing, our ideal interviews and ask them to tweet photos and videos to put on the web. After they return I would like to get updates on the best video and sound they recorded so that we have those elements leading the stories.

After every show Rachel has the studio crew and the producers answer a question about the newscast. This week she asked us to think about who on the team was essential in helping us do our specific jobs. Anchors said they relied on the teleprompter and the floor manager relied on the assistant director. I said that every single member of Team Tuesday was essential to allowing me to do my job. Without my team, I'm simply a person sitting in the media center with long list of ideas. I rely on the team to bring these ideas to your screen every Tuesday at 6 p.m.
