Copy editing is a team effort
If you want to be a good producer, it's important to know how to write well, and how to write quickly in the newsroom. Good broadcast writing also involves knowing how to keep the audience entertained by writing interesting teases.
Even though Kristen was in charge of copy editing scripts this week, it's also important that I (as the lead producer this week) look over scripts too. I've learned that it's important to work as a team and copy edit scripts a second or third time, just in case there are errors to fix.
For instance this week, I had the primary responsibility of writing the teases and the welcome to the newscast. Since I was having some trouble in writing my teases, my executive producer Kayla went over my teases with me and told me how I can improve them. This helped me tremendously in writing better teases for the newscast.
Overall, I've learned that it's important for every teammate to copy edit scripts. Thus, working together to write scripts improves the overall quality of the newscast.
