Let the live shots begin

TAGS:

While live shots aren't crucial to a newscast, it can add more flair to the newscast.  Most major news stations around the world incorporate live shots into their newscasts for various reasons.  For example, stations do live shots if there is an event beginning, underway, or ending.  Incorporating these types of live shots into the newscast adds spice and is interesting to viewers.

Even though team Monday didn't do a live shot for the newscast, we did have an idea of what would make for a good live shot.  The memorial service for Roy Kyaw, the USC Marshall student who died last week, was held Monday night.  Sarah, Steven, and I thought doing a live shot outside of Bovard Auditorium (where his memorial service was being held) would make for a good live shot.  The service was on campus, and people were in the process of setting up.  If we had gotten a live shot with one of our reporters in front of Bovard with people setting up behind him/her, it would have made for an interesting shot.  Unfortunately, we didn't have any people who had been trained to use the Streambox, so we were unable to do the live shot.

Overall, adding live shots to a newscast is more interesting than airing a copy story or VO/SOT.  While he had a great VSV this week about the Roy Kyaw memorial service, it would have been more interesting to do a live shot in front of Bovard Auditorium with people setting up in the background.  Team Monday has a strong group of MJs, reporters, anchors, and producers who are prepared to put together great live shots in the upcoming weeks!
