Teamwork and Communication
As a lucky person who gets to work with three incredible people in the newsroom, I find Team Wednesday a great team. We help each other even though the newsroom gets hectic around 3-4 p.m. We try to have mini-meetings throughout the day and encourage each other if one gets too stressed.
However, there are issues we can work on. Because I have to leave for class, I tend to take care of whatever I need to do for that day when I get back. What’s missing? Communication. Sometimes we are so caught up with our work, we tend to skip our mini-meetings. We must not forget that talking to each other saves time, relieves stress, and makes everything faster.
It helped me very much when Faith was working as graphics/CNN teammate and gave me a list of relevant videos to be used in the newscast. Although as a lead, I checked CNN videos throughout the day, I couldn’t do that as often after 3:30. Faith updated me on videos and sound bites I can use for the national/international stories. Jess, who worked as a video teammate, answered all my questions I had about what videos we had or what interviews we got. She worked efficiently with MJs and successfully sent everything online by time.
As a lead producer, I tried to check in with the video teammate, MJs, and reporters as much as I can. I need to know how the entire show is going to order the stories, budget time, and decide on preshows and superteases. I didn’t have much time to go to the editing lab and talk to editors this week, but this is what I can improve on as a lead.
Overall, Team Wednesday is great and each position helps the other very much. I hope we can do more communication throughout the day and try not to miss any concerns no matter what their size.
