Last Thursday web day

TAGS:

This Thursday was my last day of web supervisor and looking back I can tell I have really grown as a journalist because of this experience.

Since my first internship my freshman year of college, I have known I wanted to be a reporter. Ever since then, everything I have done at ATVN and at school has been towards this goal. Because of this, I have never really had a leadership position in the newsroom before. In fact, I'm not really a natural leader, and am more in my element taking a backseat to the people who are.

So being web supervisor tasked with running a website and managing a team of three web producers was truly a new experience.

I think I have grown in many ways because of it. My news judgement has gotten a lot stronger, as with such a small staff I often had to choose quickly which stories we were going to cover and choose wisely.

I learned to write quickly and efficiently while maintaining quality, and to navigate a complicated and quite temperamental content system.

I also learned how to manage producers, and got to flex my leadership muscles in ways I had not really ever before.

All in all, working on the web was a great experience. I think my team was one of the best, consistant web teams we have had, and we put out some really great content (although I may be biased), and I learned a lot too.
