Meg Whitman Appointed CEO of Hewlett-Packard
The HP board of directors ousted CEO Leo Apotheker and appointed Meg Whitman as president and chief executive officer after the stock market closed Thursday.
The board of directors choose the former governor candidate for the top spot because there are few people with the experience to run a complex business, a source told the Associated Press. Apotheker was removed because the board lost faith in his ability to lead the company for the long term.
During Apotheker's short career, the Silicon Valley company's stocks fell over 50 percent and 5 percent Thursday. They are expected to host an audio webcast to discuss Thursday's announcement at 5 p.m.
