Social Probation on the Greek Community Lifted

The decision was announced today in a letter to the Greek system.

USC Vice President of Student Affairs Michael L. Jackson announced in a letter to the Greek community that the social probation has been lifted, effective Friday, September 2nd.

“It is because of the strong leadership you have shown in implementing these new initiatives and the successful recruitment period, which recently ended, that I have decided to lift the social probation implemented last spring,” said Jackson.

Jackson stressed that the Greek system, as with all campus organizations, will still be required to follow the rules outlined in SCampus. Any events that last beyond 10 p.m. and any events with “loud/amplified” music will be in violation of this policy.  Parties will only be allowed on Friday and Saturday nights.

He referenced the negative press that the Greek system received last year, but praised the Greek leadership for confronting the problems.

“Your community is working diligently to demonstrate the ability to self-govern,” said Jackson. “Stay focused on this important issue.”

Pedro Moura, IFC vice president of public relations, was glad that the social ban was lifted.

"We're very pleased that Vice President Jackson is satisfied with our progress this semester, but we will continue to work to improve as a Greek system," said Moura. "This is just one more in the series of positive steps we've made over the last several months, and we're happy to share it with the university community."
