NBA Cancels 114 Preseason Games
The NBA canceled 114 preseason games Tuesday. This announcement comes as the latest move in a three month lockout.
NBA owners and players have been at an impasse over salary and revenue packages.
NBA commissioner David Stern said last season was not profitable for most of the league's 30 owners who are looking to players to share cost-cutting measures. Stern says the league lost as much as $300 million in the 2010-2011 season.
Representatives from both sides are still in negotiation talks but no progress has been reported.
"We can only say we are running out of time so many times," NBA Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver said Monday.
This is the first lockout since 1998.
The NBA should jsut cancel the entire season. The quality of the game has been compromised and with a shortened season, no pre-season, the players are at risk of injury. Alos, all players, coaches, managers, etc should be paid a prorated share of their salaries for hte games missed or a cancelled season. Owners must reimburse all season ticket holders for any games missed, preseason included, or the entire cost of the season tickets if the season is canceled.
Remember folks, this game the owners and players are playing is not basketball, it's called greed. When will the American public stop patronizing pro sports, movies, etc? The cost of tickets is way too high for what we get from the game and teams. Yes, it shoul dbe about entertainmnet, but pro sports is all about money, and the heck with the players being upstanding citizens. Some players are great people, but those that are the rotten apples need to be dismissed from the profession when they commit crimes. PERIOD!
Essentially NBA.... cancel the season. It's already too late to salvage any semblance of a reasonable schedule.... Besides the season is way too long to begin with. HSould be over by May.
