Provost Garrett Elected as a Harold Lasswell Fellow

Elizabeth Garrett is elected for her outstanding work in social sciences.

Elizabeth Garrett, USC's provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, has been elected to the American Academy of Political and Social Science (AAPSS) as a Harold Lasswell Fellow.

Academy fellows at AAPSS are recognized for their exceptional contribution to the use of social science evidence to address important social problems.

"It really emphasizes the extent to which Provost Garrett is a leader in the interdisciplinary studies," said USC Law Dean Robert K. Rasmussen. "To have a law professor win this award simply is a testament to what we do, and in terms of the university, it really shows that this is the type of scholars we have at USC."

Garrett is one of the leading authorities in direct democracy, legislative process and tax policy.

This prestigious honor is shared by only three other USC scholars, University Professor Manuel Castells, University Professor Geoffrey Cowan and Provost Professor Lee Epstein.

The academy is one of the nation's oldest learned societies founded in 1889 dedicating to bridging the gap between academic research and the formation of public policy.
