School District to Sell Naming Rights
La Canada Unified School District has a new and creative way to generate revenue, changing the names of school facilities and programs.
Last week the district released a list containing school facilities and programs of which names could be sold to donors.
The list's most expensive options are the La Canada High School football stadium and library, which are being sold for $1 million each.
The donations will go towards the district's operating costs. The district would have the right of rejecting any naming requests that are at odds with its mission.
If the plan is approved, the school board could vote as early as next mont. La Canada Unified would join districts such as Beverly Hills and Palos Verdes who have already have naming policies in place.
