Two Arrested, More Sought In Koreatown Police Shooting

Police are searching for people connected to the shooting.

A shooting incident from last weekend that wounded two Olympic Station police officers still remains unresolved, LAPD Sgt. Mitzi Fierro confirmed Monday.

Two juveniles were arrested and charged with attempted murder immediately following a Koreatown shooting Saturday night around 9:15, but officials said two more are at large. More than 100 officers are now part of a citywide search for the shooters.

Prior to the plainclothes officers’ arrival at the intersection of Magnolia and Leeward Avenues, the area was fraught with what was believed to be gang activity. The LAPD stepped in when they heard reports of men opening fire on a female bystander.

“[The officers] saw a number of suspects come in a vehicle and start shooting at a number of unarmed people standing on the sidewalk,” Fierro said.

He described the ensuing intervention as a “gun battle.”

Of the two plainclothes officers who were shot, one is recovering from a minor graze wound, while the other underwent surgery Sunday and is now listed in serious but stable condition.

Neither the officers’ nor the suspects’ names have been released. The two suspected shooters are thought to be Latino men driving a red Nissan or Mitsubishi sedan.
