18-Year-Old Dies At UCLA Fraternity

Authorities examine dead body found at a UCLA fraternity.

Coroners investigated the body of an 18-year-old-man Monday, who was found dead at a UCLA fraternity.

The party came to a stop Saturday afternnoon for Theta Chi fraternity when friends found Glen Parrish Jr.'s body in bed. He was pronounced dead at 2:10pm. The teen was not a student at UCLA.

The cause of death is still under investigation. Police believe alcohol and/or prescription drugs may have been the culprits and have ruled his death was not a homicide, according to Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Richard Brunson.  Parrish may have consumed the drugs and alcohol before arriving at the frat house, however toxicology reports are pending, Brunson said.

"I've always had a negative view of fraternites. I've always thought that they bring people down," said UCLA student Scarlet Cann. "I think fraternities should be more about academics and community but they aren't."

UCLA's Interfraternity Council President Matt Baskharoon said Theta Chi followed the Greek life crisis mangement procedures properly and currently will not face any consequences from IFC.

"In regards to the Theta Chi incident, obviously our hearts go out to him and his family," said Sigma Alpha Epsilon member Sam Mcclure. "From a pratical standpoint, we hope that there aren't too many sanctions to the Greek system."

As students discover these series of events in the daily edition of the Daily Bruin, many reflect upon the importance of personal choices.

"It's really awful that things like this are still happening," said 21-year-old UCLA student Brianna Larence. "It's so sad because so many people do these things and for it to kill somebody that will make people put it in perspective. People don't think it can happen to people but it can."
