"Black Thursday" Sales Stir Up Debate
"Always Low Prices" are getting lower, earlier. For the first time ever, Wal-Mart will kick off its holiday sales on Thanksgiving.
Wal-Mart representatives have confirmed that they will open all stores at 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving day. Target, Macy's, Toys R' Us, and other stores have already been offering Thursday night sales for several years.
Walmart is offering a special map on their website to help customers locate special items.
"In bad times, you have to offer better deals than usual. Traditionally, you wouldn't even get Christmas sales until well into December, but I think sales are going to continue creeping back even earlier because of the economy," said Lars Perner, a USC Marketing Professor.
But some feel that these deals are also reducing something important - family time.
At 9 p.m. on Thursday night, Best Buy is offering a free screening of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows before opening their doors for "doorbuster deals" at midnight.
