LAX Mentors Students About Careers in Aviation
LAX mentors one hundred middle and high school students about careers in aviation on Thursday.
This "Job Shadow Day" is an annual decade long tradition meant to introduce students to airport jobs ranging from accounting to aviation.
"I can tell you about one gentleman who came into our mentoring program. He first started with our flight simulator program in middle school. And he fell in love with aviation and wanted to learn how to fly. So, he eventually got pilot training, and at 16, which is the legal age to solo, he did his first solo flight at age 16 a couple months ago,” Harold Johnson of LAX Community Relations shared.
Mentors say that students with strong math and science skills are likely to excel in this industry.
