Vehicle of Redondo Beach Murder Suspect Found
A man was arrested in Baja California Wednesday morning on suspicion of committing a double-homicide and has been returned to the United States.
Jonathan Scott Chacon, 23, has been accused of murdering Vicki Bergman, 59, and her daughter Courtney, 19, in Redondo Beach on Tuesday. The Redondo Beach Police Department received a call around 10:02 AM from a woman who discovered their bodies at 1903 Rockefeller Lane. Chacon was the younger woman’s boyfriend.
It was suspected that Chacon had possibly fled to Mexico. The following morning he was found and detained at a hotel in Rosarito Beach, Baja California.
Chacon was thought to have been driving a 1996 Mustang convertible, which the police located Wednesday morning in Mission Viejo. The vehicle’s convertible top is torn and has collision damage on the rear.
The deaths of these two women are the second and third murders in Redondo Beach less than a week apart. On Feb. 22, a woman was shot by her estranged husband, who then committed suicide in front of a SWAT team in Utah. Before that, authorities have reported three killings within the past five years.
