Amanpour, Shriver Named Annenberg Commencement Speakers

The two broadcast journalists will address the graduating class of communication, journalism, and public relations majors.

Aside from addressing USC's 2012 graduating class, Christiane Amanpour will also act as the commencement speaker for the Annenberg Journalism Commencement ceremony. Maria Shriver will give the commencement speech for the Communication School.

Amanpour currently serves as a global affairs anchor for ABC News, host of "Amanpour" and chief international correspondent for CNN International. Her career, which spans three decades, began when she covered the Gulf War for CNN in 1990. Since then, she has gone on to cover news in the Middle East and interview many of the world's top leaders. Amanpour has won a collection of awards, including nine News and Documentary Emmys.

Shriver is also an award-winning broadcast journalist known for her work as a co-anchor for Dateline NBC from 1989 to 2003. The former first lady of California began her career as a news writer and producer in Philadelphia, and later worked as a reporter for CBS. Shriver's daughter, Katherine, will be among those in Annenberg's graduating class.

Last year's commencement speaker was Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. University President C.L. Max Nikias and the vice president and head of corporate and strategic communications for Atlantic Media Co, Linda Douglass addressed Annenberg graduates last year.

The main USC commencement ceremony and Annenberg commencement ceremony will take place on Friday, May 11.
