Forward Garrett Jackson Receives Permission to Transfer

The sophomore says he does plan to stay at USC for the remainder of the semester.

Basketball season may be over for the USC men's basketball team, but that does not mean the Trojans are not still being dealt blows.

Forward Garrett Jackson has received permission to contact other schools about transferring, USC head coach Kevin O'Neill announced yesterday. This past season, the sophomore averaged 6.9 points and 3.1 rebounds. His numbers improved when he started the final 14 games for the Trojans. During that stretch, he averaged 10.8 points and 4.1 rebounds.

"Garrett did a great job here for two years," O'Neill said in a statement. "He is a great guy, did a good job in the classroom and we wish him the best in everything."

This season, Jackson ranked fourth on the team in rebounds and minutes played and fifth in scoring.

USC finished in last place in the Pac-12, winning only one of its 18 games in the conference and finishing the season with just a 6-26 record overall. That marks the most losses the program has ever suffered in a season, which ended last Wednesday when the Trojans fell to UCLA in the opening round of the Pac-12 Tournament.

Next season should be much more successful for USC. Point guard Jio Fontan will return after missing all of this season due to a torn ligament. Fontan led the team in assists and was second in scoring during the 2010-11 season. USC will also welcome in transfer forwards Eric Wise and Ari Stewart, as well as a strong incoming recruiting class.
