New iPad Model Revealed

It has been said some new features will include a sharper screen and faster wireless service.

In what he calls a “Post-PC” era, Apple CEO Tim Cook held a product launch event in San Francisco Wednesday to reveal yet another competitor for PCs, the newest version of the iPad.

“Apple is at the forefront of this revolution. Apple has its feet fully planted in the post-pc future,” Cook said.

Apple said the model will be on sale starting March 16 in the U.S., Australia, Canada, and France, among other countries.

The differences between this model and the iPad 2 will not be as significant as the differences between the original iPad and the second.

Some of the features of the newest iPad include:

•    A sharper screen, with a resolution of 2048 by 1536 pixels, which would make text look smoother and high-resolution pictures look better;
•    Siri, the voice-activated found on the iPhone 4s;
•    Faster wireless service;
•    A faster processor.

Pre-orders for the newest iPad model begin Wednesday.

It had not been made clear as to whether the iPad 2 will still be in production and offered at a lower price.

Cook said that Apple sold 172 million iPods, iPhones, and iPads last year. According to Canaccord Genuity, 63 percent of the tablets shipped last year were iPads.

Other announcements at the event included an upgrade to the Apple TV set-top box, starting at the same cost of $99.  The newest version will be on sale next week.

Apple also announced the new ability for users to add movies to their iCloud device.  Users will be able to access movies on their PCs, iPhones and Apple devices.
