Orange County Man May Face Charges in Bank Hostage

Myung Jae Kim has a number of charges against him in hold-up of Buena Park bank.

Myung Jae Kim, 54, may face up to five life prison terms and sentencing enhancements if convicted of holding a Buena Park bank manager hostage.

The rest of the charges against him include one count possession of destructive device in public place, explosion of a destructive device, second-degree robbery, kidnapping, and criminal threats.

On Thursday Kim entered Saehan Bank with a sawed-off shotgun and four pipe bombs, demanding $250,000. He forced everyone out of the bank and took manager Michelle Kwon hostage and threatened to kill her.

Kim got into a standoff with SWAT officers, where he was shot. He is currently recovering at UCI Medical Center in Orange.

The date of arraignment has not yet been set.
