Woman Accused of Drowning Daughters Sought Medical Attention

Her husband said she was suffering from a multitude of physical and mental issues and was taking medication.

Jose Humberto Taque, the husband of the woman accused of drowning her daughters in a bathtub, said Wednesday his wife had visited multiple clinics and hospitals but never received the psychiatric attention she needed.

Taque said his wife, Lorna Valle, was suffering from anxiety, back and stomach pain. She was also taking antidepressants. Taque said in an interview that his wife went to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center and waited for eight hours to seek help for her anxiety and headaches, but never saw a mental-health worker.

Taque’s attorney Luis Carrillo said that he is considering suing Los Angeles County for negligence.

Kathleen Piche, a spokeswoman for the County Department of Mental Health, said there is no record of Valle seeking assistance from the county mental health department.

Valle, 33, is in jail without bail on charges of murdering 1-year-old Lindsay and 5-year-old Marian. Taque said that he does not wish to see his wife behind bars, but just wants her to receive psychiatric help.
