Obama Claims Reagan Would Not Succeed in Present Day Republican Primary

President Obama gave a strong worded critique of the Republican party on Tuesday.

In his annual meeting with the Associated Press, Obama said that Republicans “will brook no compromise.” He claimed that the GOP has shifted so far to the right, that even Republican hero Ronald Reagan would stand no chance in the present day.

"Ronald Reagan, who as I recall was not accused of being a tax-and-spend socialist, understood repeatedly that when the deficit started to get out of control that for him to make a deal he would have to propose both spending cuts and tax increases," Obama said. "He did it multiple times. He could not get through a Republican primary today."

Obama accused Republicans for rejecting a budget plan that would include $10 in budget cuts for every $1 in tax increased to slash national debt. His speech portrayed the Republicans as advocates of unsuccessful trickle down economics.

"It's antithetical to our entire history as a land of opportunity and upward mobility for everybody who's willing to work for it," the President said, "a place where prosperity doesn't trickle down from the top but grows outward from the heart of the middle class."

Throughout the speech, the President molded his image to be a supporter of big government and the free market, while touting tax equality for all. He remained strongly partisan in the meeting, later citing the GOP for trying to "impose a radical vision on our country."

He also pointed out that if the $3.5 billion Republican Ryan budget approved by Mitt Romney were to go into effect, there would be perilous outcomes for the futures of Senior citizens, the disabled, college students, and many other Americans.

Taxes would also shift dramatically, as the maximum tax bracket drop from 35% to 25%, with just one other bracket placed at 10% for the rest of America. This plan would also cause Government size and spending to plummet.
