Hollywood Sign Painted Whiter and Brighter
The iconic Hollywood Sign begins a major facelift Tuesday in anticipation of its 90th birthday next year.
Sherwin-Williams, America's largest paint retailer, is spearheading the initiative to repaint the sign for the first time in nearly 35 years.
The process will take eight to ten weeks to chip off the old paint, prime the sign and re-paint the Hollywood letters in its original white color. Approximately 275 gallons of Emerald Exterior paint will be used to refurbish the Sign.
Sherwin-Williams and the Hollywood Sign Trust are funding the project to benefit the City of Los Angeles, the Department of Recreation and Parks and sign fans from around the world.
The Hollywood Sign Trust, a California 501(c)3 non-profit, is dedicated to preserving the sign and to educating people about the global and cultural significance of its existence.
