Science Center Prepares for Endeavour's Unveiling

Local students got a sneak peek of the new Endeavour Exhibit at the California Science Center.

The California Science Center is preparing for the unveiling of their new space shuttle Endeavour exhibit on Tuesday. First, some fifth graders got a behind the scenes look.

The students were able to feel what the astronauts felt as they boarded a simulator. But that's not all they learned about.

"I learned about how they did it," said Zoe Garcia, who was one of the students visiting the new exhibit. "About how they used the restrooms and how they have to eat in the space shuttle."

Kenneth Phillips, Curator for the Aerospace Sciences at the California Science Center, says that the new exhibit is the perfect way to motivate kids, influence their education and help change their lives.

"This is absolutely the beginning," said Phillips. "This is just the beginning of the project, this is a teaser exhibit to show people what Endeavour's potential is, and get prospective sponsors in the philanthropic community in the ultimate potential of the vehicle, we haven't even scratched the surface yet with what we're doing now."

The exhibit will be housed in the Samuel Oschin Pavilion and will feature images and artifacts that relate the shuttle program to California, where the orbiters were built. It will also show components that flew into space with Endeavour, such as Endeavour's potty, galley and the tires from STS-134, Endeavour's final mission.

For more information on the exhibit, check out the California Science Center's website.
