Suspect Killed in Collision With Law Enforcement

An LA Sheriff squad car collided with a suspect on bicycle, ending in fatality.

An alleged armed bicyclist was killed Monday after a collision with a pursuing Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Squad car.

Alfonso Cerda, 44, was heading to the house of his girlfriend before the collision occurred around 1:25 a.m. in the 3500 block of West 107th Street.

Sgt. Pauline Panis of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau said two deputies from the South Los Angeles Station “attempted to apprehend a male Hispanic adult on a bicycle, whom they believed was armed with a gun."

“While the deputies exited the vehicle, the suspect brandished a gun towards the deputies," Panis said. "One deputy took cover, while the other deputy followed the suspect in his marked unit. The deputy attempted to get ahead of him, and a traffic collision occurred between the marked unit and the suspect.”

No gun was found, Panis said.

The accident happened about a half-mile from where Inglewood police officers shot and critically wounded a motorist about 2:30 a.m. Sunday during a traffic stop near 103rd Street and Prairie Avenue.
