Grand Park will celebrate Dia de los Muertos featuring altars, performances, and art from local community artists.

Grand Park displayed the oversized Dia de los Muertos altars on Thursday afternoon which were created by local community artists to celebrate the people and cultures who have contributed to the development of Los Angeles.

According to Grand Park website, the Day of the Dead celebration is scheduled for Friday, November 2nd from 5pm to 11pm.

The altars are slotted to be presented by Victor Payan and Pocha Pena. Scheduled community artists include works by Ofelia Esparza, Lalo Alcaraz, Tony Dominguez, Germs, Yolanda Gonzalez, Laura Molina and Timoi.

The event also has scheduled featured performances by Mariachi El Bronx, El Conjunto Nueva Ola, Upground, Byepongo, Trio Ellas and Special MC El Vez.

Olvera Street merchants are hosting their annual celebration of Dia de los Muertos at the El Pueblo Monument until November 4th.

The activities include children's workshops, street performances, and Dia de los Muertos displays.  An art exhibit, "Sacred Memories: Contemporary and Cross Cultural Expressions of Day of the Dead" is currently on-display in the Pico House until November 18th.

Day of the Dead is a celebration when family and friends pay tribute to loved ones who have passed away. Traditionally, Mexicans visit the graves of relatives who have died and leave flowers, food and even candy skulls.
