Anti-Hunger Advocates Call to Improve Equal Food Movement
Hunger Action Los Angeles (HALA), along with East LA Community Corporation and the Los Angeles Community Action Network, held a rally Thursday in downtown L.A. to put an end to the criminalization of those who feed the poor and grow food in unused spaces.
HALA is a nonprofit organization that seeks to end hunger while promoting healthy eating through community education, outreach, networking, and empowerment of low income people to speak on issue directly affecting their lives, according their website.
HALA Director Frank Tamborello invited people to take part in this pro-active event alongside himself and other organization members on the organization's website. "Unfortunately, the City of Los Angeles is home to some of the most egregious laws and practices that prohibit people from doing this, including a growing crack down on street food vendors, harassment and penalties for those who feed the hungry and policies that prohibit the expansion of urban gardening efforts," Tamborello said.
Thursday is HALA's official Hunger Action Day in Los Angeles.
