Instagram Expanding to Web

Instagram will be expanding to a new website this week.

The photo-sharing application, Instagram, that was originally designed for cell phones, announced in a blog post this week that it is now expanding to the web.

Instagram, which is owned by Facebook Inc., will unveil new profiles on the web over the next few days. The new website will give users a profile picture, bio and a selection of their most recent snap shots.

The layout of these new web profiles are reminiscent of Facebook timelines, minus the text and advertisements. Adding on to the Facebook theme, users will have large cover banners that is a compilation of their past Instagram pictures. Their profile picture will be on the right side of the website, with a feed of their snapshots running down the page.

Despite the similarities between the two social media's websites, Facebook has insisted that Instagram will remain a separate service. Users on the new Instagram can chose to be either private and be seen by only pre-approved followers, or to be fully public and be seen by anyone.
