Gas Prices Reach a 30-Year High

Gas prices top $4 per gallon in California.

If you are thinking of filling up your tank and taking a road trip, you may what to think again. Angelinos may face rising gas prices again in 2013.

The average gas prices in the Los Angeles and Long Beach area are once again over $4, the first time since November 6, rising 36 out of the past 39 days.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose 1.1 cent today to $4.017, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report released Monday.

This is a price jumped of 24 to 25 cents over the last week and prices have been steadily climbing over the past month.

The Los Angeles area broke the $4 mark for the first time on Sunday when it rose 2.8 cents.

The Orange County average surpassed the $4 mark for the first time since November 3 to $4.002.

Los Angeles County has the state's highest average. According to Gas Buddy, the lowest price is $3.50 at a USA Royal Oil in Lynwood. However the highest price is up to $5.02 at a Chevron in Los Angeles.

Gas prices are continuing to take a toll on household budgets. The Energy Department says U.S. households spent an average of $2,912 on gasoline, or almost 4% of their pre tax income. This is the highest percentage in 30 years.
