High School Students Sever Fingers in Tug-of-War
UPDATE | 8:14 a.m.: County USC Medical Center says the two students have not yet been released but are in stable condition.
Two South El Monte High School students severed their fingers during a game of tug-of-war on Monday.
According to school officials, the students were playing a game as part of Spirit Week activitites celebrating homecoming.
Pablo Ocegueda and Edith Rodriguez, seniors, were injured during lunch time.
Firefighters were sent to the school and paramedics transported the injured students to the hospital for surgery.
It is unknown if the fingers could be re-attached.
Officials do not know how many other teens were participating and the school district will conduct a review to determine if the policy will be changed regarding such activities.
