Sumner Redstone Donates $10M to School of Cinematic Arts
Sumner Redstone, chairman of the CBS Corporation, has granted $10 million to the USC School of Cinematic Arts.
A ceremony will be held Tuesday to thank Redstone for his generousity and to celebrate the addition of the Sumner M. Redstone Production Building, which will become part of the Cinematic Arts Complex.
The media mogul hopes to inspire students through his endowment, stating: "With this gift, I hope USC students will follow their passions and realize their creative aspirations."
Redstone's prominence within the film industry makes him the perfect benefactor for the state of the art Cinema School.
"Sumner Redstone has supported, inspired and motivated generations of entertainment industry professionals with his innumerable creative and visionary endeavors," SCA Dean Elizabeth M. Daley said.
"His generous contribution to SCA and its students will go far and wide toward advancing the ambitions and goals of the next generation of media-makers. We are very grateful for his continued support."
His contribution will add 2,600 square feet of production space where students can hone their production skills.
Patrick Fritz, a freshman Production Major in the Cinema School, has already been inspired by Redstone's philanthropy.
"Redstone's donation will allow students to study the pioneering new fields that interactive media has to offer, as well as the future of visual entertainment," Fritz said.
The dedication will be attended by USC President Max Nikias, Cinema School donors including George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, as well as other distinguished SCA alumni.
