CSULB President Resigns, Announces Job Plans

President F. King Alexander will become the new president of Louisiana State University and the new chancellor of the LSU system.

Cal State Long Beach's President announced Wednesday his resignation from the university's top post, a position he has held for more than seven years.

F. King Alexander's tenure at the helm of CSULB will end in June, after which he will become the president of Louisiana State University and chancellor of the LSU system.

"My tenure as president of Cal State Long Beach has prepared me to assume the role as the head of the Louisiana State University system,'' Alexander said. "The challenges facing LSU are similar to those in California and elsewhere."

During Alexander's presidency, CSULB - like other public universities in California - faced significant budget pressures, often requiring cuts to student services and programs and tuition increases.

Despite a fiscal environment fraught with pressure, Alexander improved partnerships with the Long Beach School District and Long Beach City College and completed significant capital improvements to the campus, according to the university's press release.

"President Alexander has been an exceptional leader during one of the most challenging times for public higher education our state has ever faced,'' CSU Chancellor Timothy White said.

CSULB is expected to appoint an interim president and begin a national search for President Alexander's replacement.
