Study: Sexting Proves Popular Among Ethnic Minority Youth
According to a recent study of African American and Hispanic youth, over 20 percent of them reported sexting and over 30 percent reported receiving a sext.
Sexting refers to sending or receiving a nude or semi-nude picture or video or a sexual text-only message.
Six scholars from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston conducted the research, and polled over a thousand people.
Scholars examined the prevalence and patterns of sexting among high schoolers from a large, urban school district in southeast Texas.
They found that African American males and females have similar prevalence of sexting behaviors, and are more likely to participate in sexting than Hispanic males.
Hispanic females, on the other hand, are least likely to participate in sexting among all ethnic minority group.
The study had some limitations, however. The scholars acknowledged the sexting rate between ethnic minorities and non-minorities could not be compared, because of the sample chosen.
I have this kind of problem where I accidently saw conversation with sexual nature on my daughter’s facebook account. She uses her smartphone to be on facebook all the time. Is there software I can use that will alert me when my daughter is involved in such conversations? I am concerned after reading about this sexting thing that teenagers do.
