Two USC Basketball Players Suspended
Two USC basketball players have been suspended Monday from team activities indefinitely by USC interim coach Bob Cantu after in a fight in Washington this weekend.
USC and the Spokane police department are investigating reports that Dewayne Dedmon and James Blasczyk were involved in a brawl at a blub in Spokane on Saturday night.
Cantu released a statement saying, "Separately, we are aware of the Spokane investigation into an alleged incident involving those players and we are cooperating with the authorities to determine the facts. Until we learn all the facts, it would be inappropriate to comment further."
USC Sports Information Director Tim Tessalone added, "We are trying to figure out the facts."
The brawl sent four people to the hospital for injuries.
Some USC basketball fans are frustrated in the way the team members acted on Saturday.
"It doesn't reflect very good sportsmanship," said Justin Sasada. "We have to improve on and off of the court."
One USC student attributes some of this behavior to the team's coaching situation.
"It's a testament to the lack or focus and pride that they have, the team has been in turmoil and chaos with the coaching changes and the scandals this year," Ben Kattan said. "To me is shows a lack of focus, there's no structure in place right now and no trust in place in the program or organization. I think they are taking their frustration out."
Kattan added that it is in Pat Haden's hands to "lay down the law and find a good replacement."
The Trojans will open the Pac-12 Tournament on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
