Fallon to Replace Leno on 'Tonight Show'
After weeks of speculation by critics and TV observers, NBC announced Wednesday that Jimmy Fallon will take over the network's flagship late night program from Jay Leno.
The changeover will take place in the Spring of 2014 and will coincide with another shift.
After decades of producing The Tonight Show from NBC's Southern California studios, the nightly show will be broadcast from New York.
Lorne Michaels, the legendary producer behind Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock and the current executive producer of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, will remain on-board as executive producer.
Though the network did not say who would repalce Fallon on "Late Night," Fallon said, "I'm really excited to host a show that starts today instead of tomorrow.''
Leno has hosted the "The Tonight Show" since taking over Johnny Carson in 1992, with only a brief break in 2009 when Conan O'Brien was the host.
"Congratulations Jimmy,'' Leno said Wednesday. "I hope you're as lucky as me and hold on to the job until you're the old guy. If you need me, I'll be at the garage.''
