Greuel, Garcetti Announce Updates to Mayoral Campaigns

Los Angeles mayoral candidates Wendy Greuel and Eric Garcetti announced updates to their campaigns Tuesday.

LA mayoral candidates Eric Garcetti and Wendy Greuel continued campaigning Tuesday in the race to become Los Angeles' next mayor.

Garcetti announced at a Van Nuys news conference that he accepted an endorsement from Republican attorney Kevin James.

Garcetti has already been backed by Councilwoman Jan Perry and former tech executive Emanual Pleitez.

The support of James, who finished third in the March 5th primary election, gives Garcetti the support of three distinguished former mayoral candidates.

James said he believes councilman Garcetti will be a more "independent" mayor than opponent Wendy Greuel, who is heavily backed by labor unions.

City Controller Wendy Greuel spoke to supporters at UCLA while Garcetti announced his new endorsement, promoting what she calls "make LA work."

Greuel spoke about city hall's spending habits, saying they were "shameful" and that her election would make Los Angeles the most transparent big city in America.

Greuel also said her campaign will not be phased by Kevin James' endorsement of Garcetti.

Greuel and Garcetti will face each other in the race to become Los Angeles' next mayor in the May 21 runoff election.
