Officials have not released a statement on whether this event was legally allowed to take place.

"This is the first time I've ever heard of it killing someone or injuring someone," said Rex Roden. "Usually these events and the ones I've seen are in an area...fenced off to where spectators are not very close to the vehicles because these things are bouncing up and down."

Whittier police are still investigating Chapman's cause of death.
