SAT Scores: California Average Drops, National Average Stagnates
SAT exam scores remained mostly unchanged for the past three years, while California's average score dropped two points from last year - and 12 points from 2010.
Average scores in reading, math and writing were the exact same for 2012 and 2013.
Out of a maximum score of 800, students averaged 496 reading, 514 in math and 488 in writing.
Only 494 people scored a perfect 2400 on the test this year, which is less than one third of a percent of all 2013 test takers.
The average scores for African-American students increased slightly during the past two years, averaging 431 in reading, 429 in math and 443 in writing.
Hispanic students scored slightly higher than last year in reading and writing, at 450 and 443, respectively.
Asian students averaged 521 in reading, 597 in math and 527 in writing, while American Indian and Alaskan natives average scored 480 in reading, 486 in math and 461 in writing.
The College Board, which owns the SAT exam, said its goal is to give college-ready students access to the organization's available opportunities. One program will focus on outreach to 27,000 low-income, high-achieving students to help them explore college options.
